VARIOUS ARTISTS / “Jimi Hendrix Covers Mixtape”

jimi hendrix 14.jpg Yall know who Jimi Hendrix is. Even if you’re not deep into his music, I’m sure you recognize that he is one of the defining creative forces of 20th century musical culture. This Mixtape focuses on Jimi’s contributions as a composer. I guarantee you have never heard all of this music before. Guaranteed! I started this project on a lark, wasn’t really panning to do it but checking out one cover led to another and then to the magic moment when I said to myself: hey, why not put together a bunch of covers. And then I got deeper because I didn’t want to have pieces that were guitar-heavy, rock-oriented covers. And then I spent over a week seeking and searching. My biggest surprise was the international reach of Jimi’s music. After gathering a healthy selection of tracks, I spent another four or five days putting the playlist together. This is not a “greatest hits” program, nor is it “my favorite Jimi,” instead I searched for rare and lesser known tracks by Jimi along with innovative interpretations of his music. Needless to mention, some of this music is not available commercially but then that’s part of BoL’s purpose: share the music with the world. Even if you don’t dig Jimi in particular, I know this music will get to you. Just listen. Don’t bring any preconceptions. Just lay back and listen. Hi. If you can find a decent cover of “Long Hot Summer Night”, please let me know. I’m doing an all-covers version of “Electric Ladyland”, and that one’s got me stumped…

Thanks,
Snagg
