MACY GRAY / “Que Sera, Sera”

“Que Sera, Sera” was a gigantic mainstream hit for blond-haired, blue-eyed Doris Day back in the day. Written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, the song was composed specifically for an Alfred Hitchcock film, his 1956 remake of his 1934 film “The Man Who Knew Too Much.” The movie starred Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day. A lot of people have covered the song, including Sly and The Family Stone. But I’ve never heard anyone inject all this funk and gospel into it like Ms. Macy Gray does in a one-off cut taken from a concert at the Wembley. I’ve got a handful of live Macy Gray and I’m salivating for a "quality" full-length live release (word to the wise: avoid her off-label release "Live in Las Vegas"). Sony, are you listening? Can you hear what I hear? macy 04.jpg Sometimes her shtick is a gimmick, but when she is on, she is outrageous and makes no holds barred music like she just stepped off the mothership in all her naked glory—and I’m not exaggerating, in London she did a fundraiser for an AIDS charity, butt-naked* sitting on a chair. She ain’t got no shame in her game. I know Doris Day is somewhere appalled and chagrined at what Macy has done to her song. What can one say?—que sera, sera! —Kalamu ya Salaam macy gray 11.jpg *"She finished her normal set and everyone was screaming for an encore. The lights went down and when the lights came back on she had her back to the crowd, naked, sat on a chair! It was all very tasteful!" http://www.nme.com/news/macy-gray/17380

Kalamu,
I can’t argue with that…Macy is straight off the mothership. Nice pair of Jimmy Choo’s.

I think that’s great.I wish more mainstream performers would perform nude.

Macy is truly one of a kind, uniquely expressed. She is aware of her self in a way that exudes confidence and ‘oneness’ with her music. I love her work and her authencity of expression. At the end o fthe day it’s that that gets me. And I love her for simply being her . . . on stage, on disc and on screen.

Stacey, what makes you think you are qualified to speak for me? All she was doing by being naked was drawing attention to a cause she was supporting. If you don’t want to see her naked – DON’T LOOK! Meanwhile let everyone else enjoy what she does!
