This week we have an overview of classic Labelle and also selections from Labelle’s new album. We round out the week with French vocalist Laika Fatien accompanied by saxophonist David El-Malek. A celebration of the female voice both hot and cool. C’est belle.

This week we feature Oscar Brown Jr. along with nine covers of Brown’s music by Kevin Mahogany, Albert Collins, Nina Simone, J-Life, Lyambiko, Candida Rose, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Two Banks Of Four. In between we hear from the hip hop duo of Atmosphere.

We open with Nina Simone and close with eight versions of "Motherless Child" (Dee Daniels, Max Roach, Harmonizing Four, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Grand Union, Bar Scott, Dwight Trible with Kamau Daaood, and Horace Tapscott), and in between we get Brazilian vocalist Izzy Gordon—we emphasis the beauty of the voice.

A week of hip interpretations of classic music featuring Duke Ellington & John Coltrane, Dave Hahn, Caecilie Norby, Archie Shepp, Andy Bey, Tom Browne, Vanessa Rubin, Roberta Flack, Mark Murphy and the a cappella group The Inspiration. If you enjoy wonderful vocals this is the week for you.
