Then on the theme of city life we get: Forss, Eliane Elias, Keziah Jones, D*Note featuring Pamela Anderson, Natalie Merchant, Rakim, Olu Dara featuring Nas, Cibelle and Blackalicious. And we close out with some new and old covers from Cassandra Wilson. Yes, yes y’all. This here is a good one.

This is the week of June 9th, 2008

We start off with classic R&B from famed New Orleanian Ernie K-Doe. Then we head to the motherland for the new release from Rokia Traoré of Mali. Finally, we get four versions of a Brazilian song, "Maracatú Atômico" by Zuco 103, Gilberto Gil, Chico Science & Naçao Zumbi, and jazz bassist Glen Fisher. Enjoy.

This is the week of June 2nd, 2008

Digging our roots this week. Start off with classic roots reggae jams from Burning Spear, Don Carlos, Bob Marley, The Mighty Diamonds and The Meditations. Then we go north to New Orleans (whose music was one of the inspirations for reggae). We’re in the streets of New Orleans with the Lil’ Rascals Brass Band, New Birth Brass Band, Olympia Brass Band and drummer Smokey Johnson. Then we head deep south to Brazil for studio, live and remix cuts from young vocalist Céu who mixes a number of root musics into a tasty contemporary gumbo. Enjoy to the max.
