The weekend after Mardi Gras is traditionally the slowest weekend of the year in New Orleans. So, relax to some War, set your head a throbbing to some Adrian Sherwood, and wile away over an hour by listening to 16 versions of "Corcovado" featuring (in no particular order): Stan Getz, Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Everything But The Girl, Elis Regina, Regina Belle, Lyambiko, Ithamara Koorax, Sérgio Mendes, Luciana Souza, Sarah Vaughan, Jetro da Silva, Jerry Gonzalez, Vanessa Rubin, Nara Leão, Trio Esperanca, Peter Martin and Gal Costa. Yeah, yeah. We know, that’s over two hours of muisc and we shouldn’t have done it but it was Carnival and…, well, we’ll be back to normal by next week.

This week at BoL it’s reggae, rap and jazz. Dennis Brown, Al Green and Eric Donaldson are on the reggae train. Lil’ Kim and J*Star have got their lighters up. A jazz "Body and Soul" retrospective features Coleman Hawkins, Sarah Vaughan, Charles Mingus, Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon, Cassandra Wilson and John Coltrane. All aboard!

Nina rides again. Nina Simone in a gospel mode. Plus a feature on jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves. And we round off the week with Chocolate Genius and Marvin Gaye doing Soul and Blues interpretations of Motown.

Marley week at BoL. Big ups to Bob Marley and his most serious release, Survival. A deep appreciation of Stephen Marley (including appearances from Eve, The Fugees, Erykah Badu and, of course, Marley family members). All rounded off with interpretations of classic Bob by Charlie Hunter and Monty Alexander. One Love. Wake Up and Live.

We have encountered a major technical problem. None of the selected Monty Alexander tracks are playing at the correct speed. We have tried a number of work arounds but we have not yet been able to solve the problem. We have removed all of the Alexander tracks from the jukebox.
