NINA SIMONE!!! (If you want to know what to know what I think about Nina Simone click on the link for a personal essay: Nina Song). This week we’ve got two live versions of Nina’s signature interpretation of "I Love You Porgy." Plus a bunch of remixes by Joe Clausell, Kerri Chandler, Mo’ Horizons. And cap the set off with a trio of innovative interpretations of "Four Women" featuring Talib Kweli, Joy Denalane and crew, and, of course, Nina herself. Enjoy!

Time for a walk on the wild side of the road. We kick it off roaring thru with Fishbone, and then kickback deep dub stylee with Rhythm & Sound and Sly & Robbie. And we close with Erykah Badu‘s delineation of what it means to be a southern girl, abetted on the one hand by Rahzel‘s beatbox and on the other hand by Opolopo‘s remix. Sometimes we feel like a nut….

Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane, this is as classic as classic gets. Sixty-something Nona Hendryx is as contemporary as contemporary gets. And then Mtume drops Les Nubians’ afro-French cover (backed by The Roots) of a Nigerian-British song. Meanwhile, New Orleans is still heavy on our minds as we try to keep rolling on the road.

Labi Siffre brings it hard with So Strong. The Legendary K.O. plus a passel of rappers signify on Katrina in a roundup of topical songs. We close by featuring the many faces of Duke Ellington’s 35-year old Sentimental Mood. We’re kind of scattered this week—it’s just a reflection of a New Orleans state of mind right along through here. emoticon Hope there’s something here that appeals to you.
