This is the week of August 14th, 2005

It’s summer, but imagine there is only one beach in the world—and everybody is there. Rap legends Public Enemy are in deep conversation with jazz extraordinaire Branford Marsalis and the subject is the Godfather, James Brown; a few sand dunes away, Norway’s Beady Belle is soaking up notes of wisdom from Washington D.C.’s Roberta Flack and Rio de Janeiro’s Jorge Ben. Plus, if it’s the original beach then it has to be in Africa, so Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba are there along with their spiritual God-child, Brazilian songstress Daúde. It’s our take on beach music: from Long Island to Rio by way of Norway and Capetown! Can you dig it?
