For me Diane Reeves is too smooth, too sweet on these tunes. Carmen McRae's voice and intonations are gritty, experienced, full of life's wisdom. So just a few minutes ago, I'm listening to Pandora and I hear a vocalist who is a little nasally, swinging a la Ella Fitzgerald and who is it? A young Carmen McRae! The voice is completely different, the handling completely different. Would be interesting to take a vocal walk through her progression from her young years to her mature years.
