Musically, thanks for showcasing the Love is Serious Business version and the Live version. Both seem to be miles ahead of the original for different reasons. Love Is Serious Business gives the song more lyrical depth instead of the classic 'punchline' based Dr. Feelgood. Also, the piano intro at the beginning does remind me of Ray Charles. The Live version is indeed double entendre. But in some circles that's how you know how SPIRITUAL Music can be. The same vehicle used to energize ones emotions can also direct some spiritually. Which brings me to the Spirit in the Dark tracks. Excellent. Spirit in the Dark with Ray has this Staples Singers vibe to it. Besides the still photos, Do you know if there is any video of this? The sax player, background singers, and the rhythm section deserve some credit too. Long after the Aretha and Ray stop singing lead, they hold it together. But I must admit, I did giggle once I first heard the original recording 'cause Sista Re-Re was hardly singing about something holy. But the intent and passion were fully tangible.
