The Spinners were the best and at their best with Phillipe. "Love" isn't a kid's song, you have to have loved, been loved, lost your love,been picked up again, loved again, gained hope and been dropped on your butt again to begin to get it. Gladys included "Love" in her medley of Classics that included "If You Don't Know Me", "End of the Road". Phillipe was an unsung Giant of Soul. Thanks for bringing it back to the front of my mind again. “Love Don’t Love Nobody” definitely a top 5 Soul Ballad. I've played it continously since I got the "Mighty Love" LP in 1974 and even writing about it brings a tear to my eye. A few years ago I read that only six people attended Phillipe's funeral and somehow that makes it even more poignant. "I'm gonna love you, I'm gonna need you, oh baby ...." The greatest soul ballad ever, bar none. I’ve played it continously since I got the “Mighty Love” LP in 1974 and even writing about it brings a tear to my eye. To me this gets directly into the bones. Anytme this song is played the looks on people and the emotions that take control are unbelievable. The lyrics to this mega monster can touch your soul and turn you into a very sensual mood. For some of us that, can attest to being in a garage with a "Black Light". This is our true national athem!! This is one song that can be played in Church and at the club, the meaning to this song touches us all. To me this gets directly into the bones.
