Believe it or not I first heard "Slippin' in to Darkness" only a couple years ago, on the jukebox at Tyler's in New Orleans. It immediately grabbed my attention and became one of my favorite songs ever. And the long version is definitely the best.

First off, big War fan here. That to say--this is an absolutely brillant write-up by y'all, all the way through.

Story: yesterday, I was in the grocery store with my son--elementary school age and already starting to form his own thoughts about music . "All Day Music" was on the sound system. I started singing the chorus: "down at the beach or a party in town\makin' love or just drivin' around..." As I sang, he scrunched up his nose and said, "You know that?" Of course, I had to "subject" him to "Platinum Jazz" today as revenge..

A beautiful give-and-take you two have as father and son.
