Excellent write up (or should I say Right UP). I knew nothing about his music until now. Thanks for the exposure. You guys keep doing what you are doing. Music is the weapon! Unfortunately some of today's artists have self-inflicted wounds from it.

Great post! Fela for president!
For those who don't know where to start I can recommend "The best best of Fela Kuti. The Black President" which most of the songs mentioned in the post (except for Colonial mentality).

Thank you! I remember first hearing Fela Kuti so long ago, my memory plays trix on me, but I think it was 1980/81 or so, when I was 15/16, and the song colonial mentality, and I have never forgotten it, even though I have never heard it again. I am now 41. I believe you when you say he was a shaman or another wave length. That was some powerful music. He deserves to be celebrated along with the likes of Bob Marley, Roy Ayers and many others.
