And now for some jazz: Roy Eldridge, Flip Phillips, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan, Wynton Marsalis all embrace. Then Wynton returns for a nearly hour long reprise. Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Jimi Hendrix, Tuck & Patti, and Sting backed by the Gil Evans Orchestra close out the week—and what a swinging week it is.

Resist. Resist. Resist. Sweet Honey in the Rock. Resist soul-selling conformity. Even in hell we can sing like angels.  Resist. Filastine. Resist going along to get along—there is another way. Resist. Randy Newman, Nina Simone, The Tamlins, Sly & Robbie. The cities are dying, but we can live. Resist. Resist. Resist! And the word for the week is… RESIST!

This is the week of July 16th, 2006
This week at BoL, we’re all over the map…literally. We start off with jazz Classics (Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson and Freddie Hubbard) from right here, Stateside. We move on to Contemporary musings from Down Under (DJ Recloose, Joe Dukie and Hollie Smith). And we wrap things up with Covers from the UK, the Far East and the Caribbean (Finley Quaye, DJ Krush and Bob Marley). North, South, East or West—we follow where the music leads. Won’t you join us?
