This is the week of September 25th, 2005Katrina, Katrina, Katrina—and Rita ain’t nothing nice herself—another bonus cut about Katrina. This Katrina song is from West Coast radio producer and hip hop promoter Davey D. It is a 15 minute mix that contains remarks from Juvenile, Master P, New Orleans Mayor Nagin, Kanye West and other sounds surrounding Katrina. Meanwhile, Mtume does a little deconstruction on Buju Banton. Kalamu’s in love with Abyssinia Infinite featuring outstanding vocals from Ethiopian songtress Ejigayehu ‘Gigi’ Shibabaw, and we close out with jazz musician Eddie Harris. It’s a huge jukebox. Awaiting your responses.

Yep. The first song in this week’s jukebox is a remake of Kanye’s single. Yep. Kicking the song off, that’s a sample of Kanye’s quote about George Bush. The remix/mashup was created by The Legendary K.O, with lyrics by Big Mon and Damien (aka Dem Knock-Out Boyz). Yep. We agree with the sentiments expressed on our bonus track by The Legendary K. O. We also agree with Gil Scott-Heron, Bia, Javetta Steele and Diana Ross as remixed by Opolopo. Yep. We will survive. By the hardest. But, we will survive! Yep.

We put this one together piece by piece—it might be a bit ragged but it’s deeply heartfelt. Mtume choose the Ellis Marsalis selection, I chose Raymond Myles and Jhelisa. Mtume also wrote about Evacuating New Orleans. As always we would appreciate any comments… We know what it means to miss New Orleans.
